Snow Day!

I realize the Duncan Fuller posting has been a little slight lately, but luckily that is because we have been totally swamped. Welcome, design overdrive! Today, along with much of the eastern half of the country, we got pounded with snow. Nothing really too new, or even in lines with the folks on the east coast, but still enough to close down schools and make everyone drive with extra precaution. What is a little unsual about today's snow day is that I have an extra cute design assistant in the office!

Meet Hogan!

Patiently waiting to go out and frolick in the snow.

Glamor shot.

Hogan- trying to get my attention as all 70 pounds of him try to crawl up into my lap.  As I am on a wheelie desk chair. Hmm.. is wheelie a word?

In his snuggly snow day spot.... right under my desk!

I Don't Think Winter Is So Bad, But....

It's cold in Michigan and I don't even mind the snow.  To be honest, I would be ecstatic if we had about 10 more inches of on the ground. In saying that, it does not mean I am not getting heart flutters looking at this beautiful garden. If this was March I would be nearly attempting to jump through my computer screen. These pictures communicate a nearly tangible feeling and mood.  In looking at these I can almost smell the freshly cut grass and feel the summer moisture in the air.  I love how this garden has a balance between being formal and structured, yet also welcoming and comfortable. Settled in between hills in New Hampshire, this "garden" is actually a series of 40 different gardens tied together by pebbled and grassy walkways (can you BELIEVE?!)  We can all thank Traditional Home and the green-thumb-savvy couple, the Fry's.  I can just imagine sipping on an Arnold Palmer....or maybe a Mojito...

It's Snowing!!!!!

Today Metro Detroit woke up to our first morning of a solid dusting of snow.  The high winds that slammed the Midwest were less than favorable, but the snow that was escorted in is getting me in the holiday spirit. While I sit at my desk and watch the snow blustering across the sidewalk I am thinking about Charlotte Moss's spread in this month's Elle Decor.  This Aspen retreat seems like the perfect place to snuggle up and spend a winter afternoon. This home has so many things I love.  From the blue and white pottery, to the animal prints, tartans, rich oil paintings (both portraits and landscapes) and amazing light fixtures, this ski retreat really does epitomize the elegance of a snowy hideaway.
